In some countries, more  and more  adults are  living  with  their parents after  graduating from  college, university,  or even after finding a job.

Do the  advantages of  this outweigh the  disadvantages?

Instead of  finding a separate accommodation, many of the adults now prefer living with their  parents. As such, it is a more beneficial trend both financially and emotionally, but it  hinders the freedom.

The  biggest benefit  of living with parents together under one  roof is  comparatively better  finance. Since with more incomes coming in  a  house, it  is but  obvious that  monetary  conditions  will definitely improve. Not only that, it would  also decrease many overhead  expenses which  a new residence would have brought, if young adults decide to live separately. This benefit is  more evident in  metropolitan cities like Delhi and  Bangalore, where even a rented apartment is extremely  expensive, let alone purchasing one. Hence, for saving  money, living  together with family is  certainly a correct choice.

Apart from monetary benefits, residing with parents  is a better decision as far as mental health is  concerned for  both parents and children. In today’s hectic world, young generation has a lot  of stress  issues  which  take a toll on their  mental  well-being. More often than not, stress is too difficult to handle for  youth on their own, , and here, old generation plays a part in  helping them out during such  circumstances with their  life experiences. Moreover, senior  members  of family  would also love to have people around  them, rather than living  a lonely and  depressed life. Such an arrangement would keep everyone away  from stress and anxiety, a common ailment causing factor nowadays.

However, loss of freedom is a concern that  has  to be taken care of when living with  parents. There  is a difference of attitude between parents and youngsters about to live their life. Many parents still keep old traditional ways close to their heart and  expect the  same from their  children. This difference becomes more acute when children  start earning, as is visible  in many  western countries. Generation gap often leads to strained relationships as  every person  feels his freedom is at  stake. So, living  together  also  has a downside.

To conclude, improved  financial status along with emotional support is the reason why  staying with parents  is  becoming popular. However, such a change  comes with lack of freedom for  young adults living with  parents.
