Many people nowadays do not feel safe either when they are at home or go out.
What are the reasons and what can be done to solve this problem?

Neither home nor outside seems safe to many people today due to inadequate implementation/enactment of laws along with high tech crimes. Sincere efforts from governments can alleviate this issue to a large extent.

.
The most prominent reason behind unsafe feeling among people is weak law enforcement. To elaborate, police force in major cities is not in proportion to the people living there, leaving offenders being less fearful. So, it becomes easier for them to commit unlawful activities like robbery or chain snatching. It can be verified by unprecedented rise of crime in densely populated cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Hence, lack of proper check by police has resulted in unsafe atmosphere for common people both inside and outside of their homes.

In addition to this, criminals increasingly use modern methods to commit crimes. Since law enforcing authorities are not using state-of-the-art technology, criminals capitalize on this shortcoming. A rise in cyber-crimes like cloning of credit cards or fake identities on social media creates a panic among people. When the people or police try to trace the criminals, more often than not, they become invisible or untraceable. This, in turn, adds to uneasiness among masses.

To solve this issue, governments need to step forward and invest in safety of people. Different methods of surveillance like cameras on streets and constant patrolling by police in crime prone areas can help substantially. Also, there is definitely a need to recruit and upgrade police force with modern facilities. For instance, in India, after the establishment of cyber security cell, a significant decline is seen in online crime rate. Therefore, it is safe to say, investment in crime prevention is crucial, as far as imbibing a feeling of safety and trust in people’s mind is concerned.

To conclude, lack on the part of authorities, whether in form of improper surveillance or by being outdated, is the reason for people’s unrest. However, proper funding and technical training of law enforcing authorities are the key to curb this feeling of fear among citizens.
