Structure of writing task 2

Opinion Essay

Agree/Disagree: A view point is given in the question statement and the candidate is asked whether he is in the favour of the statement or against it.
The candidate has to choose either of the option and substantiate it with reasons.

Introduction:

General line + Paraphrasing (writing topic in your own words) + thesis statement (i.e. your opinion) + This essay shall dwell upon my perspective in the subsequent paragraphs.

Body Paragraph 1:

Topic Statement (Main Idea of the paragraph) + Reason 1 with explanaion + an example + Reason 2 + explanation

Body Paragraph 2:

Topic Statement (Main Idea of the paragraph) + Reason 1 with explanaion + an example + Reason 2 + explanation

Body Paragrahph 3: (optional refutation paragraph, if you want to mention opposite side)

On the other hand, some people oppose the trend because they believe that

Conclusion:

To conclude, I would like to assert that (summarize your points).

Important Points:

General line is highly recommended, although it is not mandatory.

Paraphrasing is compulsory. If paraphrasing is weak or not done properly, there is negative marking.

Example can be personal or statistical.

In such essays, when you are mentioning the other side, refutation is a must.

If the content is off topic, a candidate will score maximum 4 bands.

You can use personal pronouns but do not over do it.

Please don’t add any new idea or example in conclusion.
